I love this back pack. I've had others before but none like this. I have a Canon with 4 lenses, small camcorder plus multiple accessories. It's super protective with nice cushion to protect the lenses and camera from the outside. Accessibility is great. I have room for my large lense hoods as well. It's just so worth it if you're a photographer whether professional or not. The fact that it opened in the back seemed weird to me until I received it then it made sense and felt so much more secure.UPDATE: The adjustable velcro compartments fail over a short period of time. In my case, 3 weeks of continual use. So sad because I really liked this bag. Basically, they aren't sturdy enough and they sag under the weight of a lens. That makes it really tricky when you have a lens above your camera. Everything ends up resting on one another and trying to pull the camera out the side zip is precarious as whatever is resting on the camera, sags therefore making it tough to get the camera back in the compartment. Also, this bag could do with some additional padding on the bottom. There isn't much protecting your camera equipment when you set it on the ground. I solved this by adding more padding. I'm beyond the return date or else this would likely be going back.I just got this bag and have been playing around with the configuration. I feel like this will work but will need some time and practice to see if it will fit the bill. Here are my thoughts thus far:Purpose: This bag was purchased to take on a city trip. For hiking and everyday use, I have a super high quality, ultra heavy duty, camera bag I absolutely LOVE by MindShift Gear. However, I needed something a little smaller and less intimidating for city touring. What I carry: I carry a DSLR body + 18-35mm + 100-400mm + 70-200mm + batteries, chargers, etc.Pros: The camera gear compartment of this bag is pretty adjustable with multiple velcro panels. I can easily get my gear in the camera section WITHOUT lens hoods (see further comments in "Cons" section on this). The bag feels well constructed and the padding seems adequate. Granted, I wouldn't count on it protecting your gear if it were dropped. It's not made out of clouds and miracles, after all. Thumbs up to the side access zip, makes accessing my camera fairly easy and I can still keep my arm over it if I'm in a crowded situation. What I like best is NO front access ... you can only access your gear through the back panel = you have to take the bag off to get into the gear compartment. I'm sure a master thief could still manage to lift something from this bag but it'd be more of a challenge than the plethora of front access bags. There is an adequate sized "other" compartment above the camera gear compartment (top section of bag) that is somewhat adjustable in order to accommodate your camera gear below. There are enough pockets on this bag to be useful without there being too many pockets ... meaning I'll forget what is in what pocket. I like they included a chest strap but wish there was a waist strap (more on that in "Cons"). The one zip pocket on the outer, top, leather like, flap of the bag is convenient to store non-valuable stuff like a notepad, maybe a map if you're old enough to still use those, etc. I like that this bag has a cinch down string around the top and also the two buckles to secure closed. The arm straps are nicely padded which is highly preferred, IMO. One big thing about this bag = it does not look like a camera bag. That's a big win in my book. This bag is fairly lightweight (empty) which is definitely nice.Cons: Strongly dislike my lens hoods can't stay attached to my lenses and be stored in the compartments (and I don't mean sticking off the front of my lens in protection mode, I mean flipped around facing my camera as in storing my lens hood on my lens). If you carry smaller lenses, then potentially you could leave your lens hoods on. But for my lenses, it's a no. That's a BIG dislike for me. As I said above, I don't like that there isn't a waist strap/belt. A waist strap/belt makes stabilizing a backpack much better and far easier on the back. There is a chest strap but that's not of huge help without a waist strap. Dislike that the bottom part of the buckles are plastic - wish the entire buckle was metal like the top half. The rain protector is loose, I would prefer it be attached to the bag somehow so it doesn't get misplaced. A pocket on the outside or bottom of bag with an elastic attachment string of sorts is how most manufacturers do it ... not here though, you'll need to do that yourself. I wish there was a pocket in the gear compartment big enough to contain my batteries and chargers. Guess those will go in the top "other" compartment. The miniature pockets they put on the flap that unzips on the back panel of the bag can't contain much of anything that isn't slim and flat because it will press against your camera gear. No bueno. I think it's a little lame that for a $70+ bag the "leather like" flap at the top isn't actually leather. But I guess that saves on weight? Slightly? Still, kinda cheap. Just like the plastic buckles. This bag will likely serve its purpose as an occasional "traveling to a city and want to take some of my camera gear without screaming camera bag" bag but I would in no way call this a durable, professional bag.I can't speak to durability yet but will update my review if I do keep this bag and once I've put it through some work. This is a pretty functional camera bag, with lots of thoughtful design elements. The style is retro, but the unique layout of the pack and access to its compartments really set this bag apart from others I've used. The pack is designed specifically as a dedicated camera bag, with padding throughout. The main body of the pack is divided into two compartments, one on top and one on the bottom. You access the top compartment by unsnapping the imitation-leather top flap and opening a drawstring closure, to reveal a fairly roomy, single compartment. The bottom half is accessed through a padded, zippered panel that rides against your lower back when you're wearing the pack. This compartment has a series of padded dividers held in place by Velcro-style strips, and is intended to provide spaces for a camera, lenses, batteries, and other such accessories. The camera space is also accessible through a second zippered panel in the side of the pack (to the wearer's left). This unique arrangement is actually pretty handy for securing your photography gear. I've uploaded a few photos to show how the pack is laid out, with these various compartments and openings. I can just manage to unzip the side panel and get my camera out without taking the pack off, but it isn't a very smooth or quick maneuver. Putting the camera back into that side compartment is a bit more difficult, so I usually just take the pack off when I want to put my camera away. There is a padded sleeve for a laptop computer that is accessible through the top compartment. Your computer rides on the outside of the pack's two main compartments, rather than against your back like most day packs are designed. This arrangement may expose your laptop to more potential abuse than if it were tucked in deeper, next to your back. This pack is clearly designed to prioritize protection of photography gear, rather than your computer. It works. Just be aware that your computer is out there, if you choose to carry it in this pack. You certainly would want to avoid rough handling to the extent that you can.The suspension system includes nicely designed, padded shoulder straps and a sternum strap to keep it square on your chest. There's a useful, flat zippered pouch on the outside of the pack that seems to be meant for paperwork or a slim book or two. Anything you put in this pouch could provide additional protection for your laptop. There is a mesh pocket and adjustable strap on the wearer's right side that is intended to hold a tripod. I find it useful for that. The top flap is a bit of a puzzle to me. It is a squarish, double-layered affair of cheap-feeling, imitation leather. It is secured by quick-release buckles on the two lower corners, and there is a zipper on the side that closes a relatively small pocket within the top flap. I'm not sure why the zipper doesn't allow access to the full interior of the top flap. That would provide substantial additional storage space that is essentially wasted as it is currently configured. The top flap only marginally seals the top compartment from the elements. Wind and water can easily get under the flap because it isn't really cut or contoured to effectively seal the top of the pack. Instead, the pack acheives its "weather resistant" claim through use of a separate rain cover that resembles a big, coated nylon shower cap with an elastic band around its perimeter. Again, it works but you have to carry the accessory along for it to be of any use when you need it. I'd greatly prefer a bag that uses waterproof fabric and zippers, a top that can be rolled and snapped shut to exclude water, and a contoured top flap that can be cinched down to seal out crappy weather or splashes. This is a perfectly capable camera bag for lots of fair-weather work, but it really doesn't look like the best choice for water-based adventures where you know that you'll be getting wet.I find the pack really suitable for carrying all the camera gear I need for a day's shooting, with room for some snacks or a light lunch and perhaps an extra layer of clothing. I like the pack and I'm glad that I got it. For now, I've taken to storing my camera and many of its accessories in this pack, so it's all ready to go at a moment's notice. It's really pretty convenient.Let me know if you found anything in my review helpful.Amazing!! This bag has made life so much easier. So much space! The easy access camera slot is so efficient. Highly recommend!I absolutely love this bag and continue to use it to this day!!! This is my everyday bag as a content creator, yoga instructor, DJ, etc. With that behind said, my biggest complaint after owning this bag for a year is the quality of material, particularly the light material used to create the cinched end of the bag (as shown in picture). As a consumer, be mindful of this and how you handle the bag. It has protected my camera gear for over a year now as I’ve traveled, gone hiking, & even used it as my everyday bag.Still a recommend purchase for sure!I compared this to all the other side access camera backpacks on Amazon and it looked like the best option. It looked good, had good storage options and had generally great reviews so I picked one up. I was disappointed. The good:- It looks great.- The materials used in the exterior are nice.- Can confirm it is waterproof. The bad:- The waist straps are too thin and when not in use are constantly in the way.- The carry handle naturally wants to drop down so it constantly gets stuck behind your neck which is really uncomfortable.- The pocket in the zip compartment of the leather accent is REALLY shallow. I thought i'd be able to use the entire "lid" area for more storage but i'd says its probably smaller than an average jeans pocket.- The camera compartment is a pain to set up. The Velcro is pretty strong but the actual material used for the separators is really weak. 2 of the separators fell apart after moving them just twice. They're also not as flexible as you'd expect so you can't really get around things. You're limited to squared off compartments.- You only get 4 separators, 2 small and 2 larger "L" shaped ones. This really limits your options for how you can separate the space.- The main separator between the camera area and backpack area is made from the same material as the other separators so don't expect to be able to put too much in the backpack area without affecting your camera gear. The main separator fell into the camera area a handful of times and it was always a pain to get back to normal.Summary:The bag looks good and the external quality and appearance is very good, but everything that's supposed to set this bag apart from a standard backpack lets it down massively.I felt like carrying a mountainI never seen any bag as heavy as this.If you are a weight lifter then this is a good camera bag for you. if not, you will become one after carrying this bag.Update:Above heaviness is bit exaggerated, on that day I may felt it heavy or now I'm used to it.Very stylish and very well made at a reasonable price. Feels very sturdy and well padded. I also like the fact that the camera compartment can only be accessed from the back, so you have piece of mind that it's safe. The quick side access to the camera and the tripod strap are a nice feature to have. My only irk with this is that if you have a tripod strapped to the bag then it obstructs access to the water bottle pouch! Otherwise it's a nice feature. The camera compartment is very spacious and can easily fit the camera plus 3-4 lenses plus accessories (flash, batteries, filters). The top compartment is a handy addition for your other belongings, such as a rain coat, wallet or a small packed lunch. It could do with being a little bigger perhaps but the space is probably ample for most needs. All in all a very good bag and probably one of the better ones to get out there. I was looking for a backpack that holds my camera and some equipment but also has space for everything else that i need. My wallet, some water, maybe even a book. This one is perfect and also looks amazing. Not a fan of those typical black campers backpacks at all. Very happy.
